After more than a decade of saving, my partner and I decided to start looking for our first home during the COVID-19 pandemic. We had moved from a condo on Queen West in Toronto to a shared bungalow on Main St. in Hamilton just a few years prior, to give us an opportunity to put away as much in savings as we could. Who knew when we were ready to make the largest and most significant purchase of our lives, we would be in the midst of a global pandemic and a massive boom in the housing market but we figured, if not now, then when?
 
After spending fruitless weeks filtering through Zolo listings, Cathy Whittaker, Real Estate Agent with Royal Lepage was referred to my partner and I.  We were true beginners and had no idea of what to expect through the process of searching for and eventually buying a home. My partner and I work long hours and our schedules were often inflexible but Cathy always accommodated our schedule and made the search for our forever home her priority. 
 
As we viewed home after home, Cathy helped us pinpoint exactly what and where we were looking for. The more we saw, the closer we got to finding our dream home. At times we weren’t sure we ever would. Cathy was forever optimistic and supportive. 
 
The housing market was overwhelmingly competitive. We had to act quickly. Cathy was always made us her priority and was always happy to do so. She explained all documentation required in great detail and patiently guided us through the offer process has step by step. 
 
It was an absolute pleasure spending time with and getting to know Cathy during our search for our first home. 
 
It has been almost 9 months since we moved into our home and we could not be happier. It is perfect for us. We look forward to spending many, many happy years here, growing our family, enjoying this beautiful neighbourhood and becoming a part of this kind and welcoming community.

I am glad to have worked with Cathy to purchase my first home. She was there for every step of the process. Before beginning to look at listings, Cathy sat down with me to understand what I was looking for, my budget, things I might want in a home (and things I didn't). She also provided me with a detailed first-time home buyers package and went over items specific to first time home buyers, and how they worked. From there, Cathy set me up on her portal where I was notified of new listings that fit my criteria. When I saw a house I liked, I let Cathy know and she set up showings, making sure they worked with my schedule. Cathy attended all of the showings with me on a number of weekends and evenings (even once when she could barely walk- what a trooper!). She helped me to evaluate pros and cons of each property, really working through whether I wanted to make an offer. Cathy was very thorough explaining the offer process and going through all of the paperwork with me before I signed. When I successfully had an offer accepted, Cathy continued to work closely with me to ensure the mortgage broker had all the necessary information, paperwork, etc. and to set up a building inspection so that I was fully comfortable. When we needed a return visit to the house and Cathy was unavailable, she still made it work with my schedule by having another agent attend and help out.

Overall, Cathy was very accommodating of my schedule, while ensuring she was very thorough with me so that I was comfortable with the entire process and was able to secure a great first home.

Having lived in our home in Oakville for almost 20 years, we knew many real estate agents in the area. When it came time to sell our home, there wasn't a question in our minds as to who we would work with to get the job done.
 
In buying, we were open to so many options, we weren't sure if that made Cathy's job easier or harder. She assured us it made it easier, but maybe that's just part of her charm.
